The Zonta Club of the Blue Mountains Inc presented its first HeForShe award to Mayor Mark Greenhill on 1 November 2021, for his service is improving gender equity in the Blue Mountains.

HeForShe is an international project, organised through United Nations Women, to advance women in varying aspects of community life.

“People everywhere understand and support the idea of gender equality,” Maree Cairns, Club President said. “They know it’s not just a women’s issue, it’s a human rights issue. HeForShe is an invitation for men and people of all genders to stand in solidarity with women to create a bold, visible and united force for gender equality.

“Mark has demonstrated, through his actions, this very ideal, and he is a wonderful advocate for gender equity and an excellent role model for our community. We are pleased to recognise Mark’s work.”

Empowering women through service and advocacy is the ethos of the Zonta Club.

Mayor Greenhill said: “I am humbled to receive this award.  Zonta does incredible work both here and around the world, promoting and defending the rights of women. To be recognised in this way is an honour.

“I would also like to pay tribute to all those in the Blue Mountains community who work hard to safeguard and defend the rights of woman.”
